World AIDS Orphans Day 7th May, 2012



Towards Zero Discrimination Against Children Living With or
Affected by HIV and AIDS”


Uttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society has observed World AIDS Orphans Day on 7th May, 2012 in collaboration with UMEED at Butchery Ground, Cantonment, Lucknow. The theme of the progamme was “Getting to Zero - Zero New HIV Infections; Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths” and is in sync with the “Getting to Zero” campaign.
 "World AIDS Orphan Day" has been taken as an opportunity to attempt to set a new world record of Longest Red Ribbon Created by Hand Prints of Children. Officials of Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of World Records were present during the event. Approximately 7,000 students from 22 schools gave their handprints on 1005.7 metres long ribbon in 15 minutes and set a new world record for the longest red ribbon on earth breaking the existing record. Mr. Nikhil Shukla, representative of Guinness Book of Records and Mr. V.V. Murti, representative of Limca Book of World Records, gave away the certificate and appreciated the effort by the children.
